2008 Zumba® DVD ReviewKnow What To Expect & What You'll Get!

These new DVD's are very popular. I must say I am very impressed. Beto and his team have done an excellent job of introducing Zumba to the general public. This set is definitely worth the money. Here is my review of this new Zumba® Fitness DVD set. But remember, safety first! Consult your physician before starting this or any other exercise program! Don't forget to have plenty of water, a towel, comfortable shoes, and breathable workout clothing! This DVD has two parts. The first is the Basics Workout and the second is the 20 Minute Express Workout. The Basics section consists of teaching rhythms and steps by using “The Easy Beats Breakdown” method. Instructors and Zumba® Educational Specialists Tonya, Gina and Asuka take you through the steps. The Easy Beat method is fantastic and makes Zumba so much fun and easy to learn. The steps are named and in no time at all, you will have them mastered! The Basics section is about 1 hour long. There are short breaks in between the different steps so it makes it easy to replay and practice a certain step if you need too. Each basic step (about 7) has a couple variations too so it’s not like you are doing the same old step all the time. For example, under Merengue you have the Merengue March, Que Te Mueve, Diamond Step and Booty Circle. Other steps include the Quebradita, Andale, Body Roll, Cuban Salsa, Salsa Travel, Sabor Step (Salsa), Basic Cumbia, Candle Step (Cumbia), Cumbia Funk, Basic Raggaeton, Destroza (Reggaeton), Reggaeton Stomp and Bounce, Calypso Basic, Tobago, Caribbean Island Rhythms like Reggae and the Shimmy, and also the Samba. I love this Zumba® DVD and continue to practice the steps. It is fun and I get a great workout too!
20 Minute Express Workout
The second part of the DVD is the 20 Minute Express Workout. It is of course about 20 minutes long. It is great for those times when you don’t have time for a longer workout. This Zumba® DVD uses many of the steps you learn in the Basics section like different Merengue steps, Salsa steps, Reggaeton steps, and Calypso. This also includes a shortened warm up and cool down. These are not too long because the session is only 20 minutes. I love this routine when I am short on time. I also use this Zumba® DVD just to practice steps! Of course the music is wonderful. Be sure to modify the programs to fit your particular physical condition if you need to.
Sculpt & Tone
The Sculpt & Tone Zumba® DVD is about 45 minutes long and uses the cool toning sticks that are included. The toning sticks are not too heavy and when you shake them, they sound like maracas! They go extremely well with the Latin rhythms. They have a rubber like material around them that makes them comfortable and easy to grip. The Sculpt & Tone Zumba® DVD starts with a warm up and includes many of the steps learned in the Basics DVD along with some Hip Hop, Flemenco, Belly Dance, and African beats. The music is fantastic and if you haven’t been shakin’ and shimmyin’ yet, you certainly will be. Using the toning sticks are the main focus with this Zumba® DVD. Out of the nine songs, only one doesn’t use them (not counting the warm up and cool down songs). At the beginning of each song, you are told what part of the body you are targeting. You work on toning everything from the triceps, shoulders, abs, back, and the core just to name a few. Beto and his team do an excellent job of leading you through the entire workout. The music is infectious and makes you just want to get up and move. Some of the music is Zumba® Fitness favorites while other music is new and empowering. It really moves you to “feel the music”! It is more than just exercising. As with any Zumba I do, I don’t feel like I am exercising. You know what they say…Ditch the workout and Join the party!
Cardio Party
The Cardio Party Zumba® DVD is about 50 minutes long. You want to make sure you do an extra warm up before starting this exercise DVD. The one done here is a little different. You want to be sure that your body is ready to PARTY! Beto and his team take you through many of the steps learned on the Basics DVD. The steps used include the Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Quebradita, Calypso, and a little surprise of one song of American Mix music doing a little county and the twist. As before, the music makes you want to get up and move. There are nine songs on this DVD including a cool down. Zumba® Fitness also has a CD for sale that has all the music used on this DVD. It is great if you want to get creative and do “a little Zumba” on your own or just to listen to. I love Cardio Party. It is another great Zumba® Fitness workout DVD and is one of my favorites. Bonus DVD – Zumba® Flat Abs and Zumba® Fitness Live!
Zumba Flat Abs is a wonderful workout. It is about 20 minutes long and you definitely work your abs. After a great warm up, you workout to several different genres of music including an Urban Core Mix and Reggaeton. You continue to do stretches, reaches, a little Cumbia, and Reggaeton, to work all areas of your abs. It is definitely a great workout. I will tell you that my abs could tell they got a workout when I was through! I like this one too because it is not too long and targets the abs. I don’t know about you, but I sure can use help in that area.
Zumba® Fitness Live! What can I say about this? The only thing better would be to attend one of Beto’s classes in person. This Zumba® DVD routine is about 55 minutes long. Beto is very motivating and it shines through in Zumba® Fitness Live! Sizzling music, spicy moves and dance rhythms equals a one of a kind fun workout! Beto has several of the Zumba® Educational Specialists up on stage to help throughout the routines. You can tell that everyone has such a good time.
To wrap up, I suggest you purchase this Zumba® Fitness DVD set. All of the DVD’s are excellent! The toning sticks are a delightful bonus. They are not only useful but really cool! Remember to consult with your physician before starting this or any other exercise program. I started with the Basics DVD (to learn more steps), the 20 Minute Express Workout and the Flat Abs workout. Once I was comfortable with those, I moved on to the Sculpt & Tone, Cardio Party and Zumba® Fitness Live DVDs.
